noisex. rotation usa. cd
this is a special-release for the noisex-tour 1999 in the usa. a special-present for the us-fans so to say, limited. officially only available in the usa, so i am very proud to own one that found it's way back to germany. i am not a real fan of noisex, but i like this cd very much. it contains 8 cool songs and presents us noisex at it's best. after the intro "arrival" powerful, danceable tracks like "rotation usa" or "noisex hurts" await the listener. the bunch is completed by some more noisy tracks, for example "final solution" and the track "der tag wird kommen" (the day will come) with heavy distorted vocals. the track is also dedicated to somebody, so i think it is a very personal one... for all collectors of noisex and for all the americans who have the chance to get it: try to save a copy for you, because it is a nice piece of music for all the noize-headz around. orkus, juni 1999

this is the tour disk limited to 505 copies released by raoul rotaion after the us tour of the 1999 tracks presented show the progression of noisex sound and hint the things to come on "1920.00". the disk starts out with two unusually-clean and almost melodic "arrival" and "rotation u.s.a" and then the trademark noisex distorted rhythmic sound kicks in ("noisex hurts", "noisefist") and sends the listener into hypnotic rhythmic madness filled with breakbeats and rolling dislocated percussion. "final solution" is yet another surprising composition on the cd - clean, techno-oriented track full of flowing synths and just slightly distorted beats. "distorted dream" and "departure" present the usual noisex sound with "dirty" rhythm'n'noise beats. overall this album is a lot more entertaining than previous noisex releases - more lightweight and user-friendly.

The CDS (well, with 8 tracks) "Rotation USA", limited to 505 copies was at first intended to be sold only during the Noisex american 1999 tour, in April 1999. However, since we didn't sell out at this point, there are still plenties of copies left at various mailorders, even in Europe. This record contains 8 exclusive songs, a couple of them being already present on various samplers.
First release of Noisex after the praised "Ignarrogance" and an extensive tour, Rotation USA contrasts very much with its predecessor in many ways. First, except some minimal lyrics on "Der Tag wird kommen", the CD is instrumental. Then, even if deep techno beats are still present, the sound used here are more classic distorted saturation, in a way of the rest of the rhyhtmic noise scene. This gives to Noisex's music a less technoid appeal, and brings closer to the rest of the trendy danceable Ant-Zen / Hands bands. In this style, "Rotation USA" contains three very good tracks, "Noisex hurts", "Distorted dreams" and "Departure", good danceable violent songs.
The rest of the CD is not as good, however. If you except two slow and more melodic tracks (the first and the last ones), "Rotations USA" gives the impression of trying to be a club-oriented all-hits CD, but doesn't get it. The tracks sounds all very live-directed (and it's true that Noisex sounds much better on stage), but the production is not as good as before, and some of the songs, too long, tend to get a bit boring before they end (the "Rotation USA" track, for example).
Without the voice and the techno edge that was its birthmark, Noisex doesn't sound as original as it used to. The compact format of this CD (compared to the huge content of "Ignarrogance") is a good point for "Rotation USA", since you don't get two hours and a half of Noisex in a row, but a single with only the very best song of this CD would have been even better. I wish also that a producer had worked on this CD, since the sound isn't that enjoyable.
"Rotation USA" is for sure a good CD to remember Noisex live, and a small collector for the fan of the band. However, it has some weak moments that the band should work on if they don't want to drown into the mass of noisy-danceable bands around today.
